Pace vs. Effort

Hey everyone, Mike here, coming from our Strongsville location, and today we are going to be talking about your pace versus your effort.

Stay tuned at the end of the video where I will demonstrate a working set on our leg press machine!

Your effort must increase as fatigue sets in.

A slow pace with low effort will not challenge the muscles enough for mechanical tension to occur. But, a fast pace with too much effort can compromise your form and increase potential injury risk.

The key is maintaining a smooth pace and increasing your effort as fatigue sets in.

Just remember that your pace governs effort.

As you sense your movement bogging down, push harder to keep the pace.

There is a point in the set where you will notice that you are no longer moving slowly because we’re supposed to move slowly, but you are moving slowly because you are starting to fatigue.

That’s where we can voluntarily push harder and use more effort to try and keep the pace.

It’s important to remember in this moment, especially at the end of your set, if you begin to increase the effort and you’re pushing hard, but you find yourself getting stuck and can’t complete the rep, that’s OK.

In that moment, our goal is to not necessarily complete the rep, but we challenge you to continue to push harder to try to keep the pace.

Taking your muscles to fatigue and ultimately achieving the same, if not better results, in a fraction of the time most people spend in the gym.

Let’s stay strong and focus on maintaining our pace, especially as fatigue sets in to optimize every rep.

Thanks for watching and remember at the end of that set, just continue to push a little bit harder to get the most out of that exercise.
