Welcome to our next mastery video!
This week’s topic, we’re going to break down the first specific element of training, the gradual loadup. Let’s not forget the previous topics as this is an all-inclusive series, posture, pace, path, and purpose.
And let’s give special attention to the true objective purpose of strength training to subject as many targeted muscle fibers to as much tension as we can create.
During your initial visit here at MaxStrength Fitness, you were asked to do quite a lot. Most of which you probably forgot the moment you left. However, the gradual loadup is something not to be forgotten and something we continually practice in every set on every machine and every movement.
The gradual loadup is different than moving slowly. It is incremental. This process starts before the weight and you even begin to move.
Think of a 100 pounds on a weight stack. In a perfect world, a gradual buildup would be incremental, starting at one pound to two pounds to 10 pounds and so on all the way until you put enough pressure, 101 lbs, to get the weight stack to move.
We are asking you to apply just enough pressure gradually to get the weight stack to move. Then we move slow, 6 to 10 seconds, and control the pace.
The main reason we ask for a gradual buildup is safety. Abrupt movement can lead to injury. So, in our pursuit to be efficient and effective with our strength training protocol, a gradual loading up of the muscles is safe.
With this in mind, remember, be intentional with your movement and your training and be strong.
