Hi, my name is Cassie and I’m coming to you from Max Strength Fitness in Willoughby. We’re continuing our mastery series this month talking about path and this week we’re going to be talking about the assumed objective versus the real objective. Often the assumed objective in exercise is to complete the rep or to keep the machine moving when in reality our objective is always to keep the muscle we’re targeting under tension. even if that means the machine does not move at all. I’m here with Eddie who’s going to demonstrate what happens if we focused on the assumed objective of just trying to complete the rep instead of focusing on the real objective of keeping the muscle under tension.
Now, let’s see what it looks like when we keep our focus on the real objective. keeping the muscle under tension while maintaining the proper path of movement.
As fatigue sets in and Eddie can no longer move the weight without changing his position or path, he continues to pull without movement at all. So remember, when you’re thinking about your path of movement, resist the urge to take the path of least resistance. Keep the muscle under tension, even if that means no movement is produced at all, and get results.
