Should you care?

You know, raising three girls in today’s instant gratification, how many likes do I get off Facebook, Insta, not Instagram. You know the TikTok phenomenon now, and everybody’s doing these videos and want to see how many shares and likes they get and how many people are going to watch it. You know, everybody cares about what everybody else thinks about them. In fact, the only person’s opinion that should matter is yours. Truly your own. If you’re truly happy with who you are and how you look and feel where you’re at in your life, then that’s all you should need to be happy.

So let me ask you, and if you’re going to be totally honest, I want you to answer this question. Do you care about what others think about you? You know, what if you started a brand new business tomorrow after working in say, corporate America for the past 20 years. Would you be concerned with what your neighbors and your friends and your family thought? Would you be concerned with those co-workers and your new boss? I mean, yes, you want to do a good job, and at the end of the day, you want to make a good impression. But does it really matter what others think of you?

I want to share a success strategy mindset. A tip that I’ve heard a while ago and this might change your thought about what other people think. And after I heard this, I truly stopped caring about what others thought and just cared about me and myself inside. So, here’s the tip. You know, in an article in a popular success magazine, it was written, it said the following, ‘When you die, on average the amount of people that will cry at your funeral is 10. And the number one determining factor, whether they show up to your burial or not, it’s simply based on the weather. If it rains, only one-third of those people are going to come to your scheduled burial and then they’re actually going to show up.’ I couldn’t believe that when I heard that. Think about it. 10 are going to cry and only a third are going to show up if it rains.

You know, I was always focused on what did other people think? Do they care about what I was wearing? Did they care about if I stumbled in my conversations? Did they care about if I failed or if I was successful in my business? You know, I always think about what others’ opinions mattered, but at the end of the day when you put it in perspective, you know truly that people really just truly care about themselves, as they should. It really puts things in a different perspective. So I swear after that and hearing those statistics, that I’m just going to worry about me and let everybody else worry about them.

I mean, if only 10 are going to cry and a third of them show up when it rains, then what’s it really matter? So, next time you find yourself worried or thinking about what somebody else might think about you, replace those thoughts with, how do you truly think about yourself. I mean, look, if you’re happy with that answer, then forget about the rest. You do you, let them do them. And together we’ll all just live in a really happy place. I mean, at the end of the day, no two snowflakes are alike and neither are two people. Thank God, right? So, put that in perspective, think about that and stop worrying about what everybody else thinks.
